I’m Terumi Kai, the founder of Japan Language Factory.
I’m Japanese — but for the past decade, my life and my work have moved across three continents. That journey is exactly why JLF exists.
I built this school to give people what languages gave me. Not a certificate. Not a passing grade. A life that doesn’t fit inside one country.
Over the past ten years, more than 5,000 students from around the world have learned to speak Japanese through what we now call the Terumi Method — without textbooks, without kanji study, without grammar drills.
They include senior executives at Amazon and Google, officers in the U.S. military, photographers, artists, and entrepreneurs — people who refused to let language stand between them and the lives they wanted to live.

Terumi Kai's History
Born in rural Japan and raised across three prefectures after her parents' divorce, Terumi Kai chose at 22 to skip university and move to Tokyo, where she built a successful cooking school from scratch and published a book.
By 28, she had everything most people in Tokyo dream of — and walked away from all of it. She moved alone to Europe with no English, no contacts, and no plan, learning Greek and English from zero by inventing her own method.
That method became Japan Language Factory, founded in 2015. Today she trains executives, military officers, photographers, and entrepreneurs from companies including Amazon, Google, ANA, Mitsubishi, Lufthansa, and the U.S. military — all without textbooks, kanji study, or grammar drills.
She has been featured on Japanese television (Nippon TV's "DAIGO's World Tour"), Greek national broadcasters (ANT1, EPT, CRETA), and numerous podcasts. She lives between Greece and Japan and writes about language, culture, and identity at terumikai.com.
